Discussion:
Question about backing up archives

I'm preparing to burn some archives to CD.
I have 3 files named zia03312, and similar. They don't seem to have an extension, and the type
reads URL:File Protocol. They're rather.... large one is 615+ MB, and I'm wondering what
the heck they are, and do I need to save them....? Do they even belong in the SDC Backup folder?
Thanx

If it helps I don't have any files like that in my backup folder.
However its possible they are associated with a program that I am not
using. They do sound odd though.

I don't have any files vaguely resembling what you describe. The largest file in my archive folder
just reatch 15Mb (a ZIP). NO non-zip over 800Kb! I don't have any URL:File protocol type.
I think that you can safely delete them, and reclaim some disk space. You may want to reneme and
move them somewhere else if you want to be paranoidely safe.
Try opening the smalest in ObjectEdit and see if it contains any readable text.(it will take some
time to open)

Opening the smallest in a text editor is a great idea. The only readable text was file id, and unrar.dll.
The rest was a bunch of gobbledee-gook.
Now I'm really curious about what these mystery files are, and how they got there.
Thanx a bunch Wayne, and Alain......... good to know I don't need them to proceed with my backups.
Getting rid of those 3 files made the folder size go from 1.6 GB to 220 MB. :)

Sounds like they are partial zip files where SDC has been creating an
archive and possibly crashed for whatever reason which then leaves the temp
file behind. You should be safe to delete these files if you want.

Thanks,
Brian
